Specie Name - Seita
Pronunciation - Say-ee-tuh
Overview - Born from confrontations between power and ancient magics, Seita are creatures that exist within the realm of the living and the realm of the spirits simultaneously. Their origins are within a plane of the spirit realm which is the source of many of the magical spirits bound to other living creatures. Like those gifted creatures Seita can also wield the power of those spirits. However, rather than be bound to a spirit by force or choice, Seita are in truth a living embodiment of one of such spirits. Due to their unique existence Seita consciously experience life like any other creature, but a portion of their existence is connected to the plane of the spirit realm from which they originate. The connection to, and abilities within, this realm varies with the Seita's age and strength.
Appearance
Within the Realm of the Living
Build - Within the realm of the living Seita resemble small, fox-like canines. Seita typically share their earth-born cousins' tell-tale features, such as their bushy tails and thick pelts. However, the Seita have several features which distinguish them from their vulpine relatives. Unlike some other creatures within the lands of the Imperii, Seita do not have wings within the realm of the living. However, some Seita have been known to have the ability to levitate at varying speeds and distances.
Distinguishing Features - All Seita have certain features which set them apart from other small canines. Seita typically bare features relating to their element, however the prominence and nature of such features varies. For example, an earth Seita could have portions of their figure that resemble stone or dirt, while another earth Seita could have plant-like qualities. The most noticeable difference between a Seita and any other living creature is their eyes. Purebred Seita do not have eyes in the conventional sense, but in the stead of those ocular organs are two eye-shaped orbs of light whose color typically matches the element of the Seita. These orbs function much like a normal eye when viewing the realm of the living, but in the most powerful their luminosity is known to increase with the use of magic.
Average Height - 18" - 24" (45 - 60 cm)
Average Weight - 15 - 30 lbs (6 - 14 kg)
Within the Realm of the Spirits
Build - While having some similarities to the living counterpart, a Seita's appearance within the spirit realm typically is dependent on several factors. The Seita's age, strength and even their personality can influence the size and shape of their build. Purebred Seita typically have a more powerful presence within the spirit realm, and as such take on more impressive forms within their natural realm. A Seita's appearance within the spirit realm could be considered their true form.
Distinguishing Features - Within the spirit realm Seita commonly share the elemental features of their earth-bound forms. Often these features are accentuated into more impressive or powerful designs.

Magic
Seita exist between the world of the living and the realm of the spirits. This connection is weakest at a young age, and many Seita can not experience the spirit realm until adolescence. The strength of their magic relies upon the strength of their connection to the realm of the spirits.
Within the Realm of the Living
Due to the nature of their origins and existence, Seita can only possess one element. As they are the embodiment of a spirit, no other spirit can be joined with them. At a young age, a Seita's control over their magic is at its weakest, and most youths struggle with the most basic of spells. A Seita's ability to control it's magic starts to increase after its first experience within the spirit realm. However, a powerful Seita's magic within the world of the living pales in comparison to more powerful creatures such as druins or dragons. Even though they are born without any flight appendages, some Seita can learn to levitate their bodies much as their kin from the spirit realm, which so closely resemble a Seita's eyes, seem to float or levitate through the realm of the living.
Within the Realm of the Spirits
Once a Seita enters the spirit realm they assume what can be considered their true form in both appearance and abilities. In their natural state, a Seita has immense control over their element, requiring little to no energy to accomplish astounding feats. As the Seita age, the extent of their control over their element grows stronger and more complex. With such influence within this plane of existence, Seita often attract their spirit kin when performing feats of magic. Due to their origins, most Seita view these spirits as family of sorts. With their ability to view both worlds, Seita have the ability, and likelihood, to attend to anything within the world of the living which disturbs the spirit realm and their kin. However, any magic a Seita uses within the spirit realm is unable to directly effect the living world. For instance, a Seita can not launch a magical attack upon a denizen of the living world from the spirit realm.
Behaviors
Personality - Much like other living creatures have many different temperaments, so too do the Seita. Most do tend to share a concern for the spirit realm. Reasons for such a concern vary from a feeling of kinship with the spirits to the fact that the spirit realm is the source of a Seita's power and life-force.
Lifespan - A purebred Seita is not born, but created. Even so, they first arrive within the world of the living as a pup, growing in stature and ability much like their wolf counterparts. Upon reaching adulthood, the Seita's aging process is significantly decreased. The health and as such maximum age of a Seita is dependent upon the Seita's connection to the spirit realm. A powerful Seita with a strong connection to its alternate presence could potentially live for thousands of years, permitting their hold within the spirit realm does not diminish. The strongest Seita can potentially even surpass a death within the living world by entirely devoting their existence to the spirit realm. Conversely, if a Seita's existence within the spirit realm is extinguished, so too will their life within the living world.
Breeding - While purebred Seita are created, not born, into the world of the living, they can breed with most canines and demons. Hybrid Seita are still considered Seita the same as their ancestors. However, with each generation the connection to the spirit realm weakens considerably. After only a couple generations descendant Seita's eyes will cease to resemble their spirit kin, and will instead glow a color corresponding with their element when wielding magic or otherwise connecting with the spirit realm. After several more generations descendant Seita loose their ability to transition to the spirit realm, having instead only a vague sense of events within that plane of existence. However, all hybrid Seita maintain the elemental features of their specie.
Beliefs - While not unheard of, Seita typically do not worship deities.
History
The first Seita were created accidentally by a clash of magics when the lands of the Imperii were rebuilt by numerous earth wolves in an effort to reverse the devastation the Demon War caused. The earth magic used conflicted with the balance of the bonded and ancient innate magic of the realm. This caused a rift in the flow between the natural world and the realm of the spirits birthed from the Spirit Lake and other such magical land marks within the living realm. The spiritual realm from which Seita originate is not the afterlife, but rather a mirror world. It is a separate realm in and of itself for only the magical spirits. As a result of the clash and imbalance, these elemental beings were born. However, since they were born from Earth magic, only Earth Seita were originally created which only served to further cause imbalance in the magics and spirits. Within the newly founded Imperii, some of the wolves intune with such things sensed the imbalance, and so an important quest to balance the spirit lake was set. Once the quest was completed, the wolves unknowingly also restored balance to both the entirety of their natural world and the world of the spirits. In order for this balance to be entirely achieved, more of these Seita were born of different sorts. They now exist as a bridge between the worlds, existing with forms in both realms simultaneously.
