Appearance:
Leon is, as above, a standard white, human male, standing at roughly six foot, four inches. He is of a lean build, having kept his body in combat ready state with many years of exercise, physical training and conditioning, and a fairly balanced diet. He is fairly well built, his muscles being easily defined and toned. One would be able to tell his military background by a fairly simple observation of the way he carries himself, his gait, and his general posture.
Leon's face is well defined, a pointed chin, angular jawline, and pointed nose. His appearance is strongly Germanic without the sometimes predominant overbite. His hair is a natural white-blonde, which falls down into a short ponytail. Leon's hair, in the back, is spiked slightly outwards above the tie, which continues up to the top of his head before looking somewhat wild, but definitely with a styled look. His bangs are somewhat long and fall to either side of his face, framing it. On his face, Leon has his ever present sunglasses that are much darker than normal shades. Behind the sunglasses, Leon's right eye is a deep blue color, similar to the color of a deep blue summer sky. His left eye use to be the same color, but after an accident during his time in the military, Leon's left eye changed radically. The eye looks to have a ring of fire around the iris, which itself if slitted much like a cat's. The eye has special properties that will be mentioned later.
Leon's body is normally clothed in relaxed fit, boot cut dark, but faded, jeans, combat boots, and more often than not, a thermal shirt. When not in the field, Leon has a pension for wearing collared shirts that are open in the front, over another shirt (often a thermal) the sleeves rolled to the elbow, and only has a knife hidden in the small of his back in its own sheath. When he is either anticipating a mission, or is out in the field, Leon wears a combat vest with two holsters on his left side for two pistols, a slot for his combat knife, and has a pouch for several pistol clips. At the back of the vest are two more holsters, on either side for easy access to additional weapons. On his hip, Leon wears a two belts, which fall diagonally down his right side. On the belts are twin sheaths, each housing a seemingly identical katana. The two swords are stacked on top of each-other, and can be thought to be identical, except for several small differences. The top sword, called by Leon “War”, has a red wire wrapping along the haft of the sword, with the cross-guard shaped like an eight point star. The second, referred to as “Famine”, has a pale white wire-wrapping around its haft, with the cross-guard shaped like two crescent moons attached at their rounded edges. Over the top of his combat harness is Leon's specially designed trench-coat.
The coat itself is somewhat high-collared, a crease over which the material, which is not all-together dissimilar from the feeling of leather, is folded. The coat falls down past his calves, hanging roughly six inches from the ground. The color of the coat is black, with ash-gray stitching and some embroidery done at the breast, and at the nape of the neck, which goes the length of the shoulders. The coat's tail falls into three parts, splitting diagonally going out. The tail of the coat itself has a small bit of embroidery done in silver thread, looking like scroll-work in many old texts. In addition to being comfortable and isolated, the coat is made of a very resistant material that, when hit, solidifies and spreads the shock of the impact over the surface of the coat. Anything up to medium caliber bullets can be stopped by the material. Leon's boots are also made of the same material, but have, in addition, been modified to absorb a large amount of shock from landings. Should Leon need to, he can fall from a rather great height (somewhere in the range of 50 feet) and land without injury.
Leon's two swords are enchanted, by his friend Lloyd, to neither bend, break, or dull, and cannot be wielded by anyone other than Leon. War has a fiery tint to the blade and the surrounding air, which ripples as if heated intensely. Famine has what looks to be a constant haze of dust both on and about the blade, floating through the air and vanishing about six inches from the metal.

Magic/Element:
The only real “Magic” that Leon has about him is his innate ability to warp to a spot within his line of sight. If there is something that takes up the same place, when Leon warps to it, he will collide with the object/person/thing, so Leon has taken it to practice predicting the movement of different things so that the process of hitting something when he warps mostly stops. In addition to being able to warp from a stand still, if Leon is going at a decent length of speed, he can choose to warp and exit at the same speed he was going at, but in a different direction (For instance, lets say he is riding a bike, going roughly twelve miles an hour, he can warp upwards at the same speed, but it will diminish due to gravity).
The process of warping for Leon is physically taxing, but not so much as it was when he first learned of the skill. He has taken years to practice the skill, building an endurance to the spectacle and becoming more physically used to the strain that it places on his body. Though he does still get tired, he is able to employ the skill many times before he will need time to recover.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Skills:
Leon is a seasoned mercenary, so the many skills that he posses fall into the militant order of being. Having served in the Marine Corps., Leon is physically fit and combat hardened. He is able to run long distances without tiring overly much, is able to march with a full loadout for hours, and knows how to repair, assemble, care for, and maintain various weapons and pieces of equipment. He knows several types of martial arts, including Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Judo, and Taekwondo.
In addition to his physical prowess, Leon has spent many years of his life learning differnet things. He has a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master's in Thermal Nuclear Engineering, a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, and has many friends whom he can call upon with various other forms of educational backgrounds. From this cohesive bonding, Leon was able to engineer an AI, whom he revers to as HARVI (House-hold Automated Real-time Virtual Interface). With HARVI, Leon has access to the vast stores of information that he has in reserve at his home base/fortress. HARVI is an intelligent AI who has come to terms with the many faults of both humans as well as machines, and is good natured towards those short-comings. He has been programed with a similar outlook on things to Leon, both of which are sarcastic and smart-mouthed, but kind-hearted and welcoming to those around them.
The next “thing” that Leon can call a skill belongs to his left eye. During an experiment in his military career, Leon's left eye was exposed to several chemicals that had been found near a site that was a frequent spot of visit by a man whom would become close friends with Leon, Lloyd von Blucher. These materials were kept within a secure location within a military location to be tested and deciphered. Incidentally, this was the same location that Leon was undergoing the experimental surgery to make him into a super soldier. During the operation there was a mechanical failure, which caused a reaction in one of the storage units, which quickly caused a chain of events that released the chemicals into the room where Leon was being operated upon. The room was quickly evacuated, but not before Leon's left eye was saturated by the vapors. How his other eye was not affected is still up to debate, but needless to say, it wasn't. The eye mutated a property that Leon quickly learned to use to his advantage. The eye, when in direct eye contact with another person/living creature, will reach into the mind of the subject and bring forward their fears or nightmares, but amplify them to a point of physical pain or paralysis. Depending on how long the eye contact is maintained, the effects of the gaze can be scarring, damaging, and psychologically detrimental. (Incidentally, the chemicals that caused the mutation are known, at least to Lloyd, as Nightmare fuel, an essence that some beings produce within the nightmare realm.)
The last real set of “Skills” that Leon has is from his time in the military. Leon had volunteered for an experimental program to design a super-soldier through the use of augmentation. Through this procedure, Leon went under the knife and came out vastly different that before. The process consisted of replacing various things in his body with augmented variants, such as bio-mechanical bones, reinforcements to weaker areas of the human body, isolated servos for recoil dampening, and a nanite recovery system. Through this procedure, Leon's strength, stamina, endurance and physical prowess vastly surpassed his original properties. Now, Leon can lift nearly 30 times his own weight, he can run four times faster than before, can leap twelve feet standing, and could recover from wounds at incredible rates due to the microscopic nano-machines that inhabited his blood-stream. His combat training went hand in hand with this, making a soldier who could go into the field nearly by himself, and win a fairly substantial engagement with minimal, or nearly non-existent losses.
All of these things have aided him in getting to his current position as a mercenary/ assassin for hire, as well as becoming a fairly well known businessman in the areas of defense and counter terror operations. It is also thorough this that people tend to stay away from him, if they know about his seedier profession i.e. headhunter; Leon's primary profession. This knowledge is fairly little known, and even then it is really only known to those whom would call upon him to work for them, or is whispered by people who are wanted by syndicates.
Personality:
Though Leon is primarily a walking war in his profession, his demeanor and attitudes are nearly the polar opposite. When with those whom call him friend, or just in general, Leon is a fairly up-beat person, always having a grin on his lips. Whether that be a cocky one or one of true contentment is up for people to decipher, but Leon doesn't out rightly act aggressive towards people with undue circumstances. Leon is also a smoker and an alcoholic. Having been in the military, Leon got caught up with a perceived stereotype that military types always smoke. For him, however, it allowed him to connect on a basic level with his squad-mates and others around him at the time. This connection became a habit that he has worked on over the years, but has left a deep impression on him. He no longer chain smokes, only having one or two at most a day, but none the less, he still smokes. His alcoholism is more of a joke that he has of himself. Leon knows that he likes a strong drink every now and again, and he jokingly refers to himself as a drunk.
When he is alone or in small numbered company, Leon is somewhat quiet and reserved, his ever-present grin still hanging on his face, but his mannerisms are more stoic and muted. He enjoys reading and listening to music, whether it be rock, metal, classical, or jazz. He is an intellectual who enjoys scientific conversation, but also the talk of ideas, dreams, creating things, or new inspirations for literature. He enjoys many works of fiction, both fantastical and scientific, as well as historical, and is always ready to suggest a new author or book.
On the job, meaning his mercenary career, Leon is a radically different person. His good humor nearly vanishes, which is replaced with a grim determination and reserve that leaves him almost like stone. Cold, calculating, and pragmatic, Leon becomes the soldier that he had been for years of his life. With a weapon in hand, Leon becomes a leader, a solder, and a killer. His mind works in overtime devising strategies and plans of attack, taking in many details and compounding them for his plan of attack and counter attack. He is also overly protective of his associates, provided he is working with someone. He will be critical at the end of the mission if people take unnecessary risks, and will challenge ways of thinking, wanting people to keep their heads as well as their lives.
Leon is, in general, a caring person, seeing his friends as a part of his family, and will stop at nothing to make sure that they are protected. He uses his abilities and technology to keep tabs on things and people around him, and is always delving into new and more useful sources of technology to better himself and those whom he cares about.
Biography:
Leon's life began with him being born into a military family. Seemingly predestined for a rough and tumble life, Leon was no older than three years old when his biological parents were killed. It came as a great shock to the small community that the Deltova's lived near when the accident was reported and only Leon had survived the incident. He and his parents were coming home from a county fair when the car that they had been traveling in was t-boned by another car, throwing them through the guard-rail and into a tree. Leon's father, Charles, had been the one driving, and was unfortunately, and yet fortunately, killed instantly. Leon's mother, Angela, suffered from internal bleeding due to the secondary collision with the tree. She was able to get Leon free from his car-seat and get him to a small home nearby. There, she pleaded with the family to call the paramedics and to contact their friends, the Randals. She knew that she wasn't long for the world, due to the accident, but was able to coo a crying Leon back to sleep before she passed.
It was with that act that Leon was adopted by John and Carla Ranton, the neighbors and close family friends of the Deltovas. John had been a marine with Leon's father, having served in many operations and fights together, both returning to their families with their honor and pensions. Leon was, unfortunately, an only child, and the rest of his family were unable to take care of Leon. So, he went into the protective care of the Rantons as their adopted son. Carla had taken care of Leon while he was a baby when Angela and Charles were out at work, so Leon was comforted in her presence, allowing for a smooth transition into their family.
Leon grew up with the Rantons and their children. Scott, Alice, and Stephanie Ranton became Leon's closest friends; Scott becoming Leon's running buddy through their academic career. Alice, being only three years older than Leon, always saw it fit to try and be the tough one and blaze a trail for the children, while Stephanie always wanted to tag along, being the youngest. Scott and Leon, being the same age, with only a few months in difference, were practically inseparable, always working together on projects, games, sports and school. They played on nearly all of the same teams in both middle and high-school, making it to J.V. And varsity teams in football and track. For years, Leon was happy. He knew the story of how he came into the care of the Rantons, and of both his father and his mother, but it seemed long ago and the wound didn't feel to give him any pain.
There was, however, a burning desire deep within Leon's heart. He wanted to honor his family. He wanted to follow in both of his father's footsteps and protect those whom he cared for. So, it was during his junior year in high school that he decided to sign up for the Marine Corps. This pushed him to excel. He wanted to be the best in everything, so he pushed himself to achieve the highest grades, the best positions on the teams, to be the very best he could be, while still wanting to protect his family. So, with the determination to become a Marine, Leon went to his foster parents with the notion. His father took it well, swelling with pride in his son's choice, while his mother took it as him throwing himself into the fires of war, and all the other thoughts that a mother would have upon hearing that their child was joining the military. She was hysterical for a week before she started to calm down and confessed that she was so proud of his choice. Even Alice was impressed, being a college student and going through a self-proclaimed “Goth” phase. She was so impressed that she signed up for the Marine Corps as well, bragging that she would make it to a high raking position before Leon.
So, with his nearby future set before him, Leon focuses on doing the best he could through school, through sports, and through nearly everything. In doing this, however, Leon began to earn the enmity of one very close to him. Scott began to feel unloved and unrecognized in his family's eyes, especially within his fathers. He began to become reclusive, often going off by himself for hours at a time, and always coming back seemingly more and more haggard. So this cycle continued until one fateful day that the family received a call from the police department that their son Scott had died. He had been found in his car, or what was left of it that could be identified. He had died from a fire that consumed his car, and the one that had run into his. The family was devastated. The news changed everyone in the household. Carla became more and more cautious, wanting to know the plans of all of the children days, and sometimes weeks beforehand, while John began to drink more and more. Alice became distant and brooding, packing up her things and leaving for the military base early, leaving with only a kiss to each of her parents, a hug to Stephanie, and a promise to Leon that things would be better.
Leon finished his education in grade school and went directly to his military life. At eighteen years old, Leon entered the Marine Corps a grim, but determined youth, who sat at the top of his class in school, preformed exceedingly well in physical trials, and worked until the job was more than complete, determined to meet every expectation that sat before him. To his superiors, Leon was a perfect soldier, able to follow orders, execute them with tactful perfection, and an understanding and determination to learn, adapt, and excel. Things were going to snowball for Leon in a way that he had no way of knowing how they would turn out, if for better or worse.
It was during his third year that Leon was brought aside by his commanding officer and asked to join him in a meeting. The meeting was with two other men, one a Marine who held the rank of Captain, and another, a strike force commander who had been looking into Leon's background. It was there that Leon's fate of a simple soldier was changed irrevocably. The Marine Captain asked Leon what his future goals were, to which he responded, standing at attention, that he wanted to bring honor to his family, and to protect those around him, known and unknown. The commander looked on at the response from Leon and chuckled. Commenting that Leon was still a little green, he would do well in his unit. Leon's commanding officer asked him if he was willing to do the dirty work to ensure that he could do what his intentions were. Without missing a beat, Leon responded “Yes, sir.”
This simple confirmation signed Leon's life into a select special forces group. In it, Leon was trained by people who had seen the terrors of war in all of its forms. He was supplied with many different kinds of training, from weapons training, to insurgence, to counter terror combat, to technological feats such as hacking and rewiring. He was assigned to a squad in which top priority missions were underwent, VIPs were killed, extracted, tortured. The whole nine yards, and the entire time, Leon pushed himself to be the best. His desire to excel pushed him further and further into the training, into the missions, and into a set life that it wasn't until he had reached the rank of colonel he realized he was his own commanding officer. He was the leader of a strike team who was slotted in a brand new counter-terrorist mission. It was there that Leon had to formulate his approach to the mission. Something that he had done many times before, but for the first time, he was realizing that it was HIM that was making all the decisions. It was at this point that he realized that he had done what he wanted to do. He had excelled so much that he had forgotten what his underlying motivation was.
It was also in this that the actions he took would push him into this being the final mission he would go on as a member of the military. The plan was set, the members of his team chosen and readied, the equipment finalized and stored. Star-shadow, The “Kid”, Sunny, Tracker, and himself. Five members of his team, all of which he had served the last four years with, all of which had unique abilities and skills. All of which were his family.
The mission began how it had been planned. They arrived at the DZ with little trouble. Their target was a chemical weapons plant that housed an agent that would make conventional chemical weapons a thing of the past. It was their mission to destroy the plant and make sure that there was no way for it or the agent to be ever used again. Eliminate all opposition and researchers. The plan went forward without a hitch. They had gotten to the storage facility where the component was housed, the charges were set, and the scientists taken out. They retraced their steps to the main floor, and that's where things went to hell. A silent alarm had been sent out and a force was waiting for them. Tracker went down within the first few moments of the fight, Kid was wounded, and Star was pinned down. Greg had gotten around to a safe zone and was calling for extraction when the detonation went off. The floor crumbled, the walls caved, Leon gunned down several men who had not been thrown off or killed already, and picked up the Kid. Star took the opportunity to use her ability to melt into the shadows and vanished. Leon, carrying Kid escaped from the facility and arrived at the LZ.
The chopper came and moved them to their established base, but it was only the three of them. Sunny, Kid, and Leon. Kid was rushed off to a medical tent to be put into surgery, Sunny left to drink off the mission, and Leon, left in the command tent with this thoughts. Needless to say, Leon was pushed to the edge with this. Two of his squad-mates were unaccounted for, one of them already dead, and the other had vanished, not to be seen again for years. Leon made the snap decision to call it quits. Already his family at home was gone. His foster parents having both passed away, his foster sister having gone her separate way, dropping her old life like a bad habit, and his older foster sister having vanished from the face of the Earth. Leon was done. He had lost too many people he cared for to think that he could protect them. Going to his direct superior, he asked for an early leave of duty. Surprised and somewhat offended, he was refused and ordered to return to his post.
Leon's mentality blackened that day. But, fortunately, he was offered a way out almost immediately. A lead researcher had taken a notice of his exploits and had heard of Leon's desire to leave the service. So, he offered him his ticked out, but on one condition. Leon was to participate in a super soldier program that was being funded by the military. Incidentally, the Kid had been offered the same thing, promising the restoration of his mobility from the firefight and his subsequent wounding of his motor functions. Leon accepted and was quickly brought back home to prep for the program.
It was weeks later when Leon finally awoke, alone and clothed only in a simple shirt, pants, and with a bandage over his left eye. He knew neither his name, where he was, how he had gotten there, or what day it was. He had woken up in the research facility of the super soldier program, and was suffering from the aftereffects of the surgeries. Sitting in the dark, until the lights came on and a man came in to check on him, Leon's only instinct was to escape. Subduing the scientist non-lethally, Leon took the mans key card and fled from the room. Into the hallways, up elevators, guided by some supernatural force, Leon came upon a room filled with computers. One sat, directly before him, on and waiting for him it seemed. There were files already opened, and a single video queued to play. Curiosity overtook him and he sat before the computer and clicked on the play button.
A man appeared before him and greeted him, identifying himself as Doctor Xavier Crane, the lead researcher and head of this firm. From there, he regaled Leon on the things that had happened since his agreement to participate, the surgeries that he had gone through, and the status of his friend, Kid, as well as Sunny. As Leon watched the video and looked at the information before him, memories began to painfully sort themselves into his mind. Anger, hatred, joy, sadness, all of these floated freely through Leons mind as he sat, almost mesmerized, before the image of the old doctor. The video ended with an apology to him, saying that this was the only way for him to be able to leave the service. He would have been used until he died while on a mission, or became too old to be of any use.
In the end, Leon was left with his thoughts and the knowledge that there was a locker with his military gear on the ground floor of the building, ready and waiting for him. This was his heroes welcome home. No where to go, a bank account filled with money, no family, and the open horizon before him. The weight of the world landed on him then, and the only thought he had, was to get up, and move forward. So, he did exactly, that. Getting up, Leon boarded the elevator he had come up on, pressed the ground floor button, and rode in silence. Arriving at the ground floor, Leon exited the car, found the locker room, gathered his things, and walked back into the real world.
It was five years later that Leon finally had some control over his life again. He had fallen into hard times, work was sparing but he managed to keep himself afloat. He was no longer in classes in college, working, and trying to get some semblance of normality in his life when he stumbled upon an opportunity that would shape the the oncoming years of his life. Leon, having nothing else in his recent history except the military and college, became a personal guard of a fairly important man to the criminal underground, though that wasn't known to Leon at the time. His opportunity came in the from of a letter, directed to him, to meet someone who would offer him a chance to make a lot of money. So, agreeing to go and see what the offer was, Leon set out to the arranged location, met with the man, and was offered one hundred thousand dollars to kill the man whom he had been guarding. The money was too good to pass up, so Leon agreed, and through this event, Leon slowly began to gain a following of being a precise and pointed hit-man.
His money problems ended, he was doing work that he was good at, and was beginning to find actual work in the employ of field research and development of artificial intelligence. Working in this field, Leon began to actually enjoy life again. He worked with people who had a spark of life that he had been missing for years, and through them, they were helping to fuel his recovery.
Four years later, and now Leon is a self made man. People don't come to him to do petty work such as mob-boss killings, unless the price is right, Leon is a name in the forefront of defensive counseling and technological work, and he is living comfortable in his personally designed and funded home. He has friends, a new family, and the expectation of all kinds of interesting things to come, especially since his sister Alice has returned to him as well as the Kid, known now as Nightshade, or Randal. Sunny, or Greg has come back into Leon's life and is regularly drinking with Leon at his home, and his friend Lloyd keeps things interesting by offering Leon chanced to go to different worlds, hunt criminals, and see new and exciting things. Who would want more?
Notes:
So yeah... This is the new and improved Leon Walter Deltova. A small note (in the notes section! Dear God!) I finished this at 4:55 AM. So I apologize if some of this seems like rambling, but I wanted to be creative and give you guys something interesting to read!
Let me know if you have questions, comments, or would like to yell at me for being incredibly long winded and in some cases boring.
I'm going to say this right now, I can't wait to work with all of you in the near future, and and so glad to be back! Cheers! ~ Leon
From this cohesive bonding, Leon was able to engineer an AI, whom he revers to as HARVI (House-hold Automated Real-time Virtual Interface). With HARVI, Leon has access to the vast stores of information that he has in reserve at his home base/fortress. HARVI is an intelligent AI who has come to terms with the many faults of both humans as well as machines, and is good natured towards those short-comings. He has been programed with a similar outlook on things to Leon, both of which are sarcastic and smart-mouthed, but kind-hearted and welcoming to those around them.
The next “thing” that Leon can call a skill belongs to his left eye. During an experiment in his military career, Leon's left eye was exposed to several chemicals that had been found near a site that was a frequent spot of visit by a man whom would become close friends with Leon, Lloyd von Blucher. These materials were kept within a secure location within a military location to be tested and deciphered. Incidentally, this was the same location that Leon was undergoing the experimental surgery to make him into a super soldier. During the operation there was a mechanical failure, which caused a reaction in one of the storage units, which quickly caused a chain of events that released the chemicals into the room where Leon was being operated upon. The room was quickly evacuated, but not before Leon's left eye was saturated by the vapors. How his other eye was not affected is still up to debate, but needless to say, it wasn't. The eye mutated a property that Leon quickly learned to use to his advantage. The eye, when in direct eye contact with another person/living creature, will reach into the mind of the subject and bring forward their fears or nightmares, but amplify them to a point of physical pain or paralysis. Depending on how long the eye contact is maintained, the effects of the gaze can be scarring, damaging, and psychologically detrimental. (Incidentally, the chemicals that caused the mutation are known, at least to Lloyd, as Nightmare fuel, an essence that some beings produce within the nightmare realm.)
The last real set of “Skills” that Leon has is from his time in the military. Leon had volunteered for an experimental program to design a super-soldier through the use of augmentation. Through this procedure, Leon went under the knife and came out vastly different that before. The process consisted of replacing various things in his body with augmented variants, such as bio-mechanical bones, reinforcements to weaker areas of the human body, isolated servos for recoil dampening, and a nanite recovery system. Through this procedure, Leon's strength, stamina, endurance and physical prowess vastly surpassed his original properties. Now, Leon can lift nearly 30 times his own weight, he can run four times faster than before, can leap twelve feet standing, and could recover from wounds at incredible rates due to the microscopic nano-machines that inhabited his blood-stream. His combat training went hand in hand with this, making a soldier who could go into the field nearly by himself, and win a fairly substantial engagement with minimal, or nearly non-existent losses.
All of these things have aided him in getting to his current position as a mercenary/ assassin for hire, as well as becoming a fairly well known businessman in the areas of defense and counter terror operations. It is also thorough this that people tend to stay away from him, if they know about his seedier profession i.e. headhunter; Leon's primary profession. This knowledge is fairly little known, and even then it is really only known to those whom would call upon him to work for them, or is whispered by people who are wanted by syndicates.
Personality:
Though Leon is primarily a walking war in his profession, his demeanor and attitudes are nearly the polar opposite. When with those whom call him friend, or just in general, Leon is a fairly up-beat person, always having a grin on his lips. Whether that be a cocky one or one of true contentment is up for people to decipher, but Leon doesn't out rightly act aggressive towards people with undue circumstances. Leon is also a smoker and an alcoholic. Having been in the military, Leon got caught up with a perceived stereotype that military types always smoke. For him, however, it allowed him to connect on a basic level with his squad-mates and others around him at the time. This connection became a habit that he has worked on over the years, but has left a deep impression on him. He no longer chain smokes, only having one or two at most a day, but none the less, he still smokes. His alcoholism is more of a joke that he has of himself. Leon knows that he likes a strong drink every now and again, and he jokingly refers to himself as a drunk.
When he is alone or in small numbered company, Leon is somewhat quiet and reserved, his ever-present grin still hanging on his face, but his mannerisms are more stoic and muted. He enjoys reading and listening to music, whether it be rock, metal, classical, or jazz. He is an intellectual who enjoys scientific conversation, but also the talk of ideas, dreams, creating things, or new inspirations for literature. He enjoys many works of fiction, both fantastical and scientific, as well as historical, and is always ready to suggest a new author or book.
On the job, meaning his mercenary career, Leon is a radically different person. His good humor nearly vanishes, which is replaced with a grim determination and reserve that leaves him almost like stone. Cold, calculating, and pragmatic, Leon becomes the soldier that he had been for years of his life. With a weapon in hand, Leon becomes a leader, a solder, and a killer. His mind works in overtime devising strategies and plans of attack, taking in many details and compounding them for his plan of attack and counter attack. He is also overly protective of his associates, provided he is working with someone. He will be critical at the end of the mission if people take unnecessary risks, and will challenge ways of thinking, wanting people to keep their heads as well as their lives.
Leon is, in general, a caring person, seeing his friends as a part of his family, and will stop at nothing to make sure that they are protected. He uses his abilities and technology to keep tabs on things and people around him, and is always delving into new and more useful sources of technology to better himself and those whom he cares about.
Biography:
Leon's life began with him being born into a military family. Seemingly predestined for a rough and tumble life, Leon was no older than three years old when his biological parents were killed. It came as a great shock to the small community that the Deltova's lived near when the accident was reported and only Leon had survived the incident. He and his parents were coming home from a county fair when the car that they had been traveling in was t-boned by another car, throwing them through the guard-rail and into a tree. Leon's father, Charles, had been the one driving, and was unfortunately, and yet fortunately, killed instantly. Leon's mother, Angela, suffered from internal bleeding due to the secondary collision with the tree. She was able to get Leon free from his car-seat and get him to a small home nearby. There, she pleaded with the family to call the paramedics and to contact their friends, the Randals. She knew that she wasn't long for the world, due to the accident, but was able to coo a crying Leon back to sleep before she passed.
It was with that act that Leon was adopted by John and Carla Ranton, the neighbors and close family friends of the Deltovas. John had been a marine with Leon's father, having served in many operations and fights together, both returning to their families with their honor and pensions. Leon was, unfortunately, an only child, and the rest of his family were unable to take care of Leon. So, he went into the protective care of the Rantons as their adopted son. Carla had taken care of Leon while he was a baby when Angela and Charles were out at work, so Leon was comforted in her presence, allowing for a smooth transition into their family.
Leon grew up with the Rantons and their children. Scott, Alice, and Stephanie Ranton became Leon's closest friends; Scott becoming Leon's running buddy through their academic career. Alice, being only three years older than Leon, always saw it fit to try and be the tough one and blaze a trail for the children, while Stephanie always wanted to tag along, being the youngest. Scott and Leon, being the same age, with only a few months in difference, were practically inseparable, always working together on projects, games, sports and school. They played on nearly all of the same teams in both middle and high-school, making it to J.V. And varsity teams in football and track. For years, Leon was happy. He knew the story of how he came into the care of the Rantons, and of both his father and his mother, but it seemed long ago and the wound didn't feel to give him any pain.
There was, however, a burning desire deep within Leon's heart. He wanted to honor his family. He wanted to follow in both of his father's footsteps and protect those whom he cared for. So, it was during his junior year in high school that he decided to sign up for the Marine Corps. This pushed him to excel. He wanted to be the best in everything, so he pushed himself to achieve the highest grades, the best positions on the teams, to be the very best he could be, while still wanting to protect his family. So, with the determination to become a Marine, Leon went to his foster parents with the notion. His father took it well, swelling with pride in his son's choice, while his mother took it as him throwing himself into the fires of war, and all the other thoughts that a mother would have upon hearing that their child was joining the military. She was hysterical for a week before she started to calm down and confessed that she was so proud of his choice. Even Alice was impressed, being a college student and going through a self-proclaimed “Goth” phase. She was so impressed that she signed up for the Marine Corps as well, bragging that she would make it to a high raking position before Leon.
So, with his nearby future set before him, Leon focuses on doing the best he could through school, through sports, and through nearly everything. In doing this, however, Leon began to earn the enmity of one very close to him. Scott began to feel unloved and unrecognized in his family's eyes, especially within his fathers. He began to become reclusive, often going off by himself for hours at a time, and always coming back seemingly more and more haggard. So this cycle continued until one fateful day that the family received a call from the police department that their son Scott had died. He had been found in his car, or what was left of it that could be identified. He had died from a fire that consumed his car, and the one that had run into his. The family was devastated. The news changed everyone in the household. Carla became more and more cautious, wanting to know the plans of all of the children days, and sometimes weeks beforehand, while John began to drink more and more. Alice became distant and brooding, packing up her things and leaving for the military base early, leaving with only a kiss to each of her parents, a hug to Stephanie, and a promise to Leon that things would be better.
Leon finished his education in grade school and went directly to his military life. At eighteen years old, Leon entered the Marine Corps a grim, but determined youth, who sat at the top of his class in school, preformed exceedingly well in physical trials, and worked until the job was more than complete, determined to meet every expectation that sat before him. To his superiors, Leon was a perfect soldier, able to follow orders, execute them with tactful perfection, and an understanding and determination to learn, adapt, and excel. Things were going to snowball for Leon in a way that he had no way of knowing how they would turn out, if for better or worse.
It was during his third year that Leon was brought aside by his commanding officer and asked to join him in a meeting. The meeting was with two other men, one a Marine who held the rank of Captain, and another, a strike force commander who had been looking into Leon's background. It was there that Leon's fate of a simple soldier was changed irrevocably. The Marine Captain asked Leon what his future goals were, to which he responded, standing at attention, that he wanted to bring honor to his family, and to protect those around him, known and unknown. The commander looked on at the response from Leon and chuckled. Commenting that Leon was still a little green, he would do well in his unit. Leon's commanding officer asked him if he was willing to do the dirty work to ensure that he could do what his intentions were. Without missing a beat, Leon responded “Yes, sir.”
This simple confirmation signed Leon's life into a select special forces group. In it, Leon was trained by people who had seen the terrors of war in all of its forms. He was supplied with many different kinds of training, from weapons training, to insurgence, to counter terror combat, to technological feats such as hacking and rewiring. He was assigned to a squad in which top priority missions were underwent, VIPs were killed, extracted, tortured. The whole nine yards, and the entire time, Leon pushed himself to be the best. His desire to excel pushed him further and further into the training, into the missions, and into a set life that it wasn't until he had reached the rank of colonel he realized he was his own commanding officer. He was the leader of a strike team who was slotted in a brand new counter-terrorist mission. It was there that Leon had to formulate his approach to the mission. Something that he had done many times before, but for the first time, he was realizing that it was HIM that was making all the decisions. It was at this point that he realized that he had done what he wanted to do. He had excelled so much that he had forgotten what his underlying motivation was.
It was also in this that the actions he took would push him into this being the final mission he would go on as a member of the military. The plan was set, the members of his team chosen and readied, the equipment finalized and stored. Star-shadow, The “Kid”, Sunny, Tracker, and himself. Five members of his team, all of which he had served the last four years with, all of which had unique abilities and skills. All of which were his family.
The mission began how it had been planned. They arrived at the DZ with little trouble. Their target was a chemical weapons plant that housed an agent that would make conventional chemical weapons a thing of the past. It was their mission to destroy the plant and make sure that there was no way for it or the agent to be ever used again. Eliminate all opposition and researchers. The plan went forward without a hitch. They had gotten to the storage facility where the component was housed, the charges were set, and the scientists taken out. They retraced their steps to the main floor, and that's where things went to hell. A silent alarm had been sent out and a force was waiting for them. Tracker went down within the first few moments of the fight, Kid was wounded, and Star was pinned down. Greg had gotten around to a safe zone and was calling for extraction when the detonation went off. The floor crumbled, the walls caved, Leon gunned down several men who had not been thrown off or killed already, and picked up the Kid. Star took the opportunity to use her ability to melt into the shadows and vanished. Leon, carrying Kid escaped from the facility and arrived at the LZ.
The chopper came and moved them to their established base, but it was only the three of them. Sunny, Kid, and Leon. Kid was rushed off to a medical tent to be put into surgery, Sunny left to drink off the mission, and Leon, left in the command tent with this thoughts. Needless to say, Leon was pushed to the edge with this. Two of his squad-mates were unaccounted for, one of them already dead, and the other had vanished, not to be seen again for years. Leon made the snap decision to call it quits. Already his family at home was gone. His foster parents having both passed away, his foster sister having gone her separate way, dropping her old life like a bad habit, and his older foster sister having vanished from the face of the Earth. Leon was done. He had lost too many people he cared for to think that he could protect them. Going to his direct superior, he asked for an early leave of duty. Surprised and somewhat offended, he was refused and ordered to return to his post.
Leon's mentality blackened that day. But, fortunately, he was offered a way out almost immediately. A lead researcher had taken a notice of his exploits and had heard of Leon's desire to leave the service. So, he offered him his ticked out, but on one condition. Leon was to participate in a super soldier program that was being funded by the military. Incidentally, the Kid had been offered the same thing, promising the restoration of his mobility from the firefight and his subsequent wounding of his motor functions. Leon accepted and was quickly brought back home to prep for the program.
It was weeks later when Leon finally awoke, alone and clothed only in a simple shirt, pants, and with a bandage over his left eye. He knew neither his name, where he was, how he had gotten there, or what day it was. He had woken up in the research facility of the super soldier program, and was suffering from the aftereffects of the surgeries. Sitting in the dark, until the lights came on and a man came in to check on him, Leon's only instinct was to escape. Subduing the scientist non-lethally, Leon took the mans key card and fled from the room. Into the hallways, up elevators, guided by some supernatural force, Leon came upon a room filled with computers. One sat, directly before him, on and waiting for him it seemed. There were files already opened, and a single video queued to play. Curiosity overtook him and he sat before the computer and clicked on the play button.
A man appeared before him and greeted him, identifying himself as Doctor Xavier Crane, the lead researcher and head of this firm. From there, he regaled Leon on the things that had happened since his agreement to participate, the surgeries that he had gone through, and the status of his friend, Kid, as well as Sunny. As Leon watched the video and looked at the information before him, memories began to painfully sort themselves into his mind. Anger, hatred, joy, sadness, all of these floated freely through Leons mind as he sat, almost mesmerized, before the image of the old doctor. The video ended with an apology to him, saying that this was the only way for him to be able to leave the service. He would have been used until he died while on a mission, or became too old to be of any use.
In the end, Leon was left with his thoughts and the knowledge that there was a locker with his military gear on the ground floor of the building, ready and waiting for him. This was his heroes welcome home. No where to go, a bank account filled with money, no family, and the open horizon before him. The weight of the world landed on him then, and the only thought he had, was to get up, and move forward. So, he did exactly, that. Getting up, Leon boarded the elevator he had come up on, pressed the ground floor button, and rode in silence. Arriving at the ground floor, Leon exited the car, found the locker room, gathered his things, and walked back into the real world.
It was five years later that Leon finally had some control over his life again. He had fallen into hard times, work was sparing but he managed to keep himself afloat. He was no longer in classes in college, working, and trying to get some semblance of normality in his life when he stumbled upon an opportunity that would shape the the oncoming years of his life. Leon, having nothing else in his recent history except the military and college, became a personal guard of a fairly important man to the criminal underground, though that wasn't known to Leon at the time. His opportunity came in the from of a letter, directed to him, to meet someone who would offer him a chance to make a lot of money. So, agreeing to go and see what the offer was, Leon set out to the arranged location, met with the man, and was offered one hundred thousand dollars to kill the man whom he had been guarding. The money was too good to pass up, so Leon agreed, and through this event, Leon slowly began to gain a following of being a precise and pointed hit-man.
His money problems ended, he was doing work that he was good at, and was beginning to find actual work in the employ of field research and development of artificial intelligence. Working in this field, Leon began to actually enjoy life again. He worked with people who had a spark of life that he had been missing for years, and through them, they were helping to fuel his recovery.
Four years later, and now Leon is a self made man. People don't come to him to do petty work such as mob-boss killings, unless the price is right, Leon is a name in the forefront of defensive counseling and technological work, and he is living comfortable in his personally designed and funded home. He has friends, a new family, and the expectation of all kinds of interesting things to come, especially since his sister Alice has returned to him as well as the Kid, known now as Nightshade, or Randal. Sunny, or Greg has come back into Leon's life and is regularly drinking with Leon at his home, and his friend Lloyd keeps things interesting by offering Leon chanced to go to different worlds, hunt criminals, and see new and exciting things. Who would want more?
Notes:
So yeah... This is the new and improved Leon Walter Deltova. A small note (in the notes section! Dear God!) I finished this at 4:55 AM. So I apologize if some of this seems like rambling, but I wanted to be creative and give you guys something interesting to read!
Let me know if you have questions, comments, or would like to yell at me for being incredibly long winded and in some cases boring.
I'm going to say this right now, I can't wait to work with all of you in the near future, and and so glad to be back! Cheers! ~ Leon
